Dog boarding options in Athens
Apolo does not currently operate its own boarding facility. Where a realistic independent-provider option may be available, Apolo can review the enquiry and explain a possible introduction.
The boarding-provider network is still developing. Availability, suitability, pricing and booking cannot be guaranteed.
Kinds of boarding arrangement
Boarding is not one single thing, and the right answer depends as much on your dog's temperament as on dates. These are the arrangements worth knowing about before you enquire anywhere.
Short stays
A weekend away, a work trip, or cover for a few days. Usually the easiest kind of stay to arrange.
Longer stays
Holidays, extended trips, or the gap around a house move. These need more notice and more planning.
Home-style arrangements
Your dog stays in someone's home, often alongside fewer dogs. Suits dogs who find kennel environments stressful.
Kennel-style facilities
A dedicated boarding facility with its own routines, staffing and exercise areas.
Trial stays
A short introductory stay before a longer booking, so everyone knows how your dog copes before you travel.
More than one dog
Dogs from the same household may or may not be boarded together. Worth raising early, since it affects which providers can help.
Information to include in your enquiry
Approximate answers are fine. The more a provider has up front, the more accurately they can say whether they can help.
- Start and end dates, or an approximate range
- Your area of Athens
- Your dog's size and approximate weight
- Breed, if you know it
- Feeding routine, including food type and timing
- Any medication, and how it is normally given
- How your dog usually is around other dogs
- Usual exercise needs
- Whether you need collection or delivery
- Whether you would want a trial stay first
- An emergency contact and your vet's details
What a provider may want to confirm
Beyond the basics, a boarding provider will usually want to understand:
- Vaccination status and records
- Whether your dog is comfortable being handled by unfamiliar people
- Whether your dog can be left alone, and for how long
- Any resource guarding around food or toys
- Escape or fence-testing history
- Toilet routine and any recent changes
- Who can collect your dog if you are delayed
Questions to ask a boarding provider
Useful whether an introduction comes through Apolo or you find a provider independently. Apolo does not vouch for any provider's answers, and does not guarantee their work, pricing or availability.
- Where exactly do the dogs sleep, and is that space shared?
- How many dogs are on site at once?
- Can dogs be separated when that is needed?
- How much exercise does each dog get, and where?
- How is feeding handled, and can you follow my dog's usual routine?
- How is medication given and recorded?
- What happens if my dog becomes ill or is injured?
- Which vet do you use, and who decides to go?
- Can I visit the facility before booking?
- What exactly does the price include, and what is extra?
- What are your cancellation terms?
- Do you offer collection and delivery, and is that included?
- Who will actually be with my dog day to day?
- How do you update owners during a stay?
Common questions
Does Apolo run its own boarding kennels?
No. Apolo does not currently operate a boarding facility of any kind. Boarding would be delivered by an independent business.
Can you guarantee a boarding place?
No. The boarding-provider network is still developing, so availability, suitability, pricing and booking cannot be guaranteed.
What does it cost?
Apolo does not publish boarding prices, because Apolo does not provide boarding. Each independent provider sets and confirms its own pricing.
How far ahead should I ask?
As early as you reasonably can, particularly around holiday periods. Earlier notice makes it more likely something realistic can be found.
Can I ask about boarding and dog walking together?
Yes. Dog walking is provided directly by Apolo in Palaio Faliro, Alimos and Kalamaki, so those two are handled quite differently, but you can raise both in one enquiry.
What if nothing suitable is available?
Apolo will tell you plainly rather than leave the enquiry open. The questions on this page are still useful if you go on to find a provider yourself.
